History

The following statement was written by E.B. Greuel, the founder of Weston Builders Supply Co., who was strongly influenced by his father-in-law, William H.P. Weston. It gives a history on Weston’s and the people who began the venture. We are still a small family owned business taking pride in making Customer Service our first priority. We offer our customers the best service they can find anywhere and a knowledgeable staff, many with 20 years or more experience in the industry and some have been here at Weston's for as long.

" They say people are funny. We might go along with that. They also say people are curious. That is why we are answering the many inquiries as to why we have named our Company-----"WESTON BUILDERS SUPPLY CO.".

The Weston Builders Supply Co., was named in fond remembrance of Mr. William Henry Pearson Weston, the father of Mrs. Edith Weston Greuel, who is the mother of Kenneth William Greuel, Vice President, and Burt Weston Greuel, Secretary of our Company.

Mr. Weston was born in the year 1860 at Dudley, Warwick, England, and passed away in the year 1932 at Hollywood, California. He was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church.

As a young man he came to Canada, and from there to Chicago Illinois, where he was court reporter for a time, having learned shorthand under the direction of Isaac Pittman. During his early years in Chicago he was private secretary to John P. Altgeld who later became Governor of the State of Illinois.

Mr. Weston was a graduate of The Chicago Law School, and became one of the outstanding Corporation attorneys of his time. During his years in Chicago he served as a Director of Chicago Gas Light & Coke Co., Northern Illinois Public Service Co., Chicago Elevated & Surface Lines, Superior Light & Power Co., and as Secretary & Treasurer of the L.E. Myers Co. This latter Company was in the construction field of building railroads, power plants, etc.

On the humorous side, Mr. Weston being an Englishman you would expect him to enjoy his cup of tea. On the contrary, coffee was more to his liking. On his last trip back to England in 1926 he took along his own coffee and percolator, so that he would have coffee the way he liked it.

The things that he stressed most were: Honesty, trustworthiness, truthfulness, belief in God, and the ability to look every man in the face. We of Weston Builders Supply Co., will make every effort to carry out his way of life in our business. "
